Nomination Grand Pré Hosts Symposium

Join Nomination Grand Pré as they host a symposium on the heritage of water and International Day for Monuments and Sites: an event recognized by UNESCO. The event takes place on Saturday, April 16th from 8:30-4:30 at the KC Irving Environmental Science Centre, Acadia University. Following the symposium, a reception will be held from 4:30-6:30. A day of community events will also take place on April 17, 1- 4 pm, at Grand Pré National Historic Site.

International Day for Monuments and Sites recognizes the diversity of cultural heritage that is shared by humanity. The day raises awareness about the efforts required to protect and conserve world heritage. Each year, International Day for Monuments and Sites celebrates a different aspect of our collective heritage and the theme this year is the heritage of water.

The symposium on Saturday, April 16 is hosted by Acadia University and is revolves around three themes: water as landscapes, water as a way of life, and water as transportation. Speakers include Peter Labor (Heritage River Program), Dr. Graham Daborn (Acadia University), Jenna Boon (Joggins Fossil Cliffs UNESCO World Heritage Site), Laurence Mawhinney, (Old Town Lunenburg World Heritage Site), Roy Bishop, (Acadia University (ret’d)), David Scott (Dalhousie University), Albert Marshall (Mi’kmaq community of Eskasoni), John Shaw (Bedford Institute of Oceanography) and Pam Buell (Parks Canada, Rideau Canal World Heritage Site).
