Planting Native Trees and Shrubs

In late September we had a great day with volunteers from the Joggins Fire Department, the River Hebert and Area Garden Club and the local Cadets to continue to transform the grounds here at the Fossil Centre.

As some of you may know, the land that the Centre was built on was impacted by the mining industry that was once thriving in Joggins.  We are continuing to transform the site by planting native trees and shrubs.

This planting effort was a great collaboration with local organizations and individuals through funding from Canon's Take Root Program, presented by Evergreen - that's right Canon (as in the camera) and Environment Canada Eco-Action.   The plants were from MacPhail Woods Ecological Forestry Project (a Nursery in PEI) and Helio Nursery (from the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia).

Thanks again all you volunteers!!! It will be great to see how your work bears fruit in the next few years.
